Grief has a way of shaking everything we thought we understood about life. For Christians, grief can feel especially heavy because we are not only mourning loss, we are also trying to remain steady in our faith while our hearts are hurting.
If you are grieving today, please know this: you are not alone, and your sorrow does not mean your faith is weak. Scripture reminds us in 1 Thessalonians 4:13 that we do not grieve like those who have no hope. Our tears are real, our pain is real, but our hope in Christ is real too.
As believers, we may not understand why certain losses happen. There are moments when life feels overwhelming and beyond explanation. But instead of leaning on our own understanding, we hold tightly to God’s truth and His character. As Proverbs 3:5 reminds us, we are called to trust in the Lord with all our heart and not lean on our own understanding.
Grief does not mean we stop trusting God. In fact, grief often becomes the place where our trust grows deeper. When answers do not come, we rest in what we know to be true. God is good. God is faithful. God is near to the brokenhearted.
Psalm 34:18 reminds us that the Lord is close to those who are crushed in spirit. Even when you feel weak, He is holding you. Even when you feel overwhelmed, He is sustaining you.
For the Christian, grief is never without hope. We hold onto the promise found in 2 Corinthians 5:8, that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. We believe in the resurrection. We believe death is not the end for the children of God.
If you are walking through grief right now, stay anchored in faith. Be gentle with yourself. Allow yourself to mourn, but do not let sorrow steal your hope. Stand strong even when you do not understand. Trust God even when it hurts. Lean on Him daily and allow His peace to carry you through.
Grief is real, but hope is real too. And for the believer, that hope is always found in Christ.
