Lettuce Wraps

Maintaining a healthy body is essential not only for our physical well-being but also as a spiritual practice that reflects our responsibility in caring for the lives and gifts God has entrusted to us. The Bible reminds us that our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit and that we should treat them with respect and care. By adopting a healthy lifestyle, we can be better equipped to serve others and glorify God in all that we do.

With that said, I’ve been exploring ways to improve my eating habits in order to lose weight and feel better overall. One ingredient that has consistently worked for me in this journey is something I’d love to share with you. It has made a noticeable difference in my diet, and I believe it can help you too!

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb ground turkey or ground beef

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

  • 1 onion, finely chopped

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 red bell pepper, diced

  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin

  • 1 teaspoon chili powder (adjust to taste)

  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • 1/4 cup low-sodium chicken broth

  • 1/2 cup salsa (optional)

  • 1 head of iceberg lettuce or butter lettuce, leaves separated and washed

  • Optional toppings: diced tomatoes, avocado slices, shredded cheese, cilantro

Instructions:

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add onions and cook until translucent, about 3-4 minutes.

  2. Add garlic and cook for another 1-2 minutes until fragrant.

  3. Add ground turkey or beef to the skillet, breaking it up with a spoon. Cook until browned and no longer pink, about 5-7 minutes.

  4. Stir in diced bell pepper, ground cumin, chili powder, salt, and pepper. Cook for another 3-4 minutes until the bell pepper softens.

  5. Pour in chicken broth and salsa (if using). Simmer for 5-7 minutes until the mixture thickens slightly.

  6. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.

  7. Spoon the turkey or beef mixture into the center of each lettuce leaf. Add optional toppings like diced tomatoes, avocado slices, shredded cheese, and cilantro.

  8. Serve immediately and enjoy your healthy lettuce wraps!
